Weddings are expensive. Upwards of 20,000 - $50,000. So, unless your wedding is to be at the place where I was raised, ($20 worth of buckshot, five cases of Pabst Blue Ribbon and a trip to the WalMart; set you back $150 total) looks like you’ll need an investment strategy.

Of course there is no bigger investment for the man than the engagement ring. This thin piece of metal capped by a tiny Huge clear rock basically determines your status in the world to her friends and plays a role in determining how many times you can expect to get laid in any given month. Essentially, this is something you want to get right, because you only get one shot.

A friend sent me a link to a Cake Site that has a plethora of Man Cakes. I know I have done a few articles on “Groom Cakes” already, but some of these cakes are truly fascinating. For example the rock climbing up a stream cake with blue waterfall and rushing rapids icing (i can feel my teeth melt!)

I found this one on Geekologie the other day. I think this cake is probably the most elaborate wedding/groom cake EVER made.

The PreWife and Myself were talking the other day about what kind of wedding we want. Once she 86′d my suggestion of two fiddlers, moonshine and a ho down, she suggested that a simple non-traditional wedding would suit her fine. I scratched my head and tried to convince her that nothing could be more non-traditional then a greased pig chase after a few belts of my Uncle’s home brew after saying our vows with her daddy’s shotgun in my back, but she looked through at me and with a patient smile said, “no”. End of discussion.

The hardest part I think of a simple wedding is, well, keeping it simple. This is actually harder then it sounds because now you have freed yourself from the bonds of tradition. In fact there are so many variations on the theme, that you can go hog-wild just trying to reign in the possibilities. We put our heads together and thought about all the weddings we had been to (me about one, but that was to my sister, so it doesn’t count in 49 of 50 states and Guam…her about 200) and we landed on Read the rest of this entry »

When it comes down to picking caterers, photographers, etc. probably the most important ingredient at the wedding, besides your bad self - you are going to show up aren’t you? - will be the band, or DJ, OR your iPod.

I have gone back and forth on this one a bit, because a band is always cool (if they are good) and a good DJ can set the right tone and double as an MC. But how many weddings have you been to, where the band sucked or the DJ played one or two of your songs for every three or four of his songs. And all DJs today have…wait for it…. iPods that have all their songs on them anyway.

Finally, don’t forget these guys will be eating your food and drinking your booze as well, so you are paying for them on TOP of paying for them. Wow, hmmmm…this got me thinking.
